Battery or VR?

Left the light on and killed the battery.

Tried jumping from truck. Did as done before: leave truck off. Wait 5 min or so while everything is hooked up. Fire bike up. Turned over a few times but not enough umph.

So, I turned bike off started truck and turned bike on. Fired up fine. Took cables away and within 1 minute the bike dies.

Scratched head. Attached cables again letting the truck run for a little while connected, bike off. After about 3 minutes fired bike up and let it stay cabled for a minute or so. This time, once taking cable away bike died immediately.

So, 5 year old battery finally dead or is something else brewing? Using remote positive terminal and foot peg off bike if that matters... Shouldn't right?

5 years old battery died after draining it completely.

An electrician could check it out for you but since the motor dies that fast, the battery cannot hold charge and could have some cells shorted.
Cheers.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the reinforcement.

I'd be checking connections at the battery. You could put a charger on the battery and see if it takes a charge. At 5 years, you got your money's worth out of that battery. Regulator can be checked with volt meter with bike running.

Foot peg is not a very good ground connection....

Because it's not connected to the frame?
Has always worked for me in the past.

Thanks for the other suggestions.
