Oh did you mean the trail riding. Check out Juan's vids of Downie. Some would call Downie trails extreme. Others would say it is only extreme if you put a wheel off the trail. It can be a long way down. Seriously Downie is not that extreme, but is very physically demanding if you try to ride it all in one day.
Fletch, Yeah I was talking about the trails. I'm not able to watch the cool videos at work, big brother you know. I know how steep the terrian can be in that area, but sounds good anyway!

Not able to make it, I'll be working weekends from July through September.

I may end up soloing Henness pass on some weekdays this summer... Plus my Yambler is no single tracker.

Hi Sharron, that route looks to have some pavement in it. Not good for my WR.

Hey, Eric! Yes, it does. Were you planning to ride/crawl with me?

Catfish ...

Catfish izzat u on the Husky Desert Memorial? I see the 'Kug' in the orange KTM jersey. Good lawd what a motley crew!

Troop, lemme know when u wanna do Henness Pass I have lotsa weekdays avail. I was just up there yesterday w/ some Sacto inmates.
Pounded the rocks so hard with the 640 I caught a pinch flat in the front. Quick trailside tube change. (no 'Kug' sticker on the 640-go figger)

Actually if the group is on big bikes and you are on your wr you will be the envy on the strecth going down or up into poker flat. Up being a lot tougher than down. Lets just say there are rocks everywhere with no clean line. The last time we rode it my buddy on a 640 with a load of camping gear had a pretty tough time with it and he is a decent rider. He tried the slow diliberate
method at first and he just kept ending up with the bike on top of him, so then he just gased it and hung on. It was very entertaining following up the hill. Oh and I should mention it is one of those hills that seem to never end.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Can anyone recommend a good campground? Car camping with wife/kid
There seems like a lot of choices. I'm going in blind on Friday

A friend and I rode that exact hill on KLR 650's loaded with camping gear, on a multi-day dirt road ride to Lassen. Tree roots, rocks, never-ending, just an awesome ride. I cleaned the section.
OK, maybe I dabbed once, but that's it, I tell ya!
We were talking to a local about Poker Flats and his description of the route was "They smacked a crazy donkey in the ass and followed it up the hill and called it a trail".

Edit: That said, you could tractor up the hill pretty steadily last time I tried it.

Where exactly is this camp going to be? Gold Lake?

Cool route, but I'd add in Eureka Lake if headed thru Plumas-Eureka State Park. Beautiful lake & view up there. The road up to the lake is gravel.

Fletch, thanks for the local info. Is the north-to-south direction the easier way thru Poker Flats?

Do you need running water? If not, any of them. Just a few have water. This campground list gives some details. Non-camping options are here.

Riding.
Thought I'd stop by for a day or so on the way to a rally in Oregon.
