Los Angeles to South America 2014

My original RR was to the Costa Rica. However, since I embark on the trip, the ferry to Colombia from Panama opened up.
Therefore I decided to continue travel to South America.

Thank you for Mods for changing the title. I appreciate it.

Here we go again.
My last ride south was 2012. I had great time.
This time, going to Costa Rica. Only schedule I have to keep is to be at CR by 15th of Nov.

There are still time left for the departure, still I would like to share, even the exciting sometimes dreadful 'anticipation'.

For this trip, I am too relaxed, maybe borderline complacent. No worries for what kind of tire, oil, what to carry, what if this happens, what about this, bolts, nuts, etc etc. Not me. Nuh uh.

So, if you think I am missing something, let me know, always seeking ideas from fellow advriders.

I will update this post as new plans in place.
This is my riding schedule.

DAY 1 THE BORDER PUERTO PENASCO 265 MILES
DAY 2 PUERTO PENASCO HERMASILLO 282 MILES
DAY 3 HERMASILLO LOS MOCHIS 300 MILES
DAY 4 LOS MOCHIS MAZATLAN 275 MILES
DAY 5 MAZATLAN GUADALAJARA 298 MILES
DAY 6 GUADALAJARA MORELIA 238 MILES
DAY 7 MORELIA TAXCO 239 MILES
DAY 8 TAXCO MARQUELIA 214 MILES
DAY 9 MARQUELIA PUERTO ANGEL 205 MILES
DAY 10 PUERTO ANGEL TONALA 254 MILES
DAY 11 TONALA BORDER 150 MILES
DAY 12 BORDER GUATEMALA 200 MILES
DAY 13 GUATEMALA HONDURAS 200 MILES
DAY 14 HONDURAS NICARAGUA 200 MILES
DAY 15 NICARAGUA NICARAGUA 200 MILES
DAY 16 NICARAGUA COSTA RICA 200 MILES

These are actual riding days. I will have day off every now and then.

Please feel free to throw in ideas. I'm all

Sounds like a wonderful trip! Can't speak for the other CA countries, but the closer you get to CR I can say the more likely you will get to enjoy the CR rainy season if you're traveling in October and early November.

Will you be staying in CR and then flying home or do you return to LA on your bike? If one way, what will you do with the bike?

Rainy Season

Sounds like an epic trip. Best to consider decent tires for Nicaragua and Costa Rica - specifically tires that are decent in very wet conditions. As rainy season implies, it could be overcast daily, but more likely to rain for a little as a few hours straight or days on end. If you can improve your bike's lighting (HID/LED/etc), it would be helpful just to increase chances of your being seen by the locals driving in the rain.

Good luck, have fun and post pics please !!!

For return trip, I will decide by the time I get to my destination. Most likely ride back, and spend some time here and there.

I'll be cruising through essentially the same time. If you want to meet up or ride together for a few days hit me up!

This is the best I could do. I'll work on it.

Anyways, the Bici map.....so far so good. I have not ( obviously not yet ) applied this map on real life situation. But from what I can see so far, it looks good.
