I spent about 25 grand over 5 years racing in the AFM. My riding ability improved in literally a day/ night type of comparison. I never finished first, but only finished last that first race. I never had a practice or race crash, never caused another rider to crash, and had an awesome experience that is easily in my top 8 accomplishments of my life.
My wife was my pit crew, my four kids grew up playing with other racers kids, and we all had a ball.
If that's not winning, I don't know what is.
If you can go 5 years roadracing with out at least one big crash you are superman,crashes happen for all sorts of reasons and they do come up quick sometimes.

When I raced flattrack I only considered a win a win,pissed otherwise.
But I was a punk then.
