950 Adventure jetting/starting question

Hi, quick question on jetting for a 2005 950 Adventure. I just installed the Head2Wind prefilter and jet kit. 45 pilots, 70 IAJs, 145/148 mains. Needles on the 3rd clip. Stock exhaust, no canister to be found, sea-level elevation. I think I set the fuel screws at 2 turns (should have written it down!). Runs great except it is a bit hard to start cold. I have to crack the throttle a bit and it takes a few cycles of cranking for a few seconds. Once it warms up, it's perfect. No issues restarting when hot. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of turning the fuel screws in a half-turn, but since I have to disassemble half the bike to get to them, I'd like to have an educated guess before I do. Yes, I know I can get extended fuel screws for $100. I might go that route, but I'd rather not. Thanks!

Just to be clear, are you using the choke?

Yes. I've tried full choke, half, quarter, etc. It needs full choke and the throttle cracked to start. 40-50 degree morning temps.

Tight valves cause this symptom?

That usually results in hard starting when hot, as far as I've heard. And I should have said, it started fine with the stock jetting.

I'd go back to stock jetting then.

But then it would be too rich with the prefilter

I'd choose good starting over a pre filter.

With all the positive reviews on the pre-filter and Head2Wind jetting, I've never read any complaints about starting. I'm sure some small adjustment will fix it. I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet.

You might check in with Ken since you bought his jetting kit- he'll have the right answers.

Possible that your idle adjustment is set too high- once you get it running and warmed up, set to 1500/1600rpm and see how it restarts. Also, when you take the carbs off its a good idea to synch them after you re-install. Also did you check your TPS?

Idle is 1400-1500. I didn't sync the carbs or mess with the TPS.
I was hoping he would chime in here, I'll give him a call. I bought the kit used in the FM here, so I'd understand if he doesn't want to help me.

On another note, when I started it this morning, I held down the starter button while slowly pulling on the choke. Once it was about half way out, it lit right off.
