FLy to RIde Redux: Who needs third gear?

I might as well start this report seeing how I'm sitting in my underwear in Miami delaying the drive up to Ft. Lauderdale to fetch a bike I purchased from an inmate last May (yes, that's right...May 2013). I had to abandon the attempt to ride home my new-to-me 2006 Husqvarna TE610 from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Providence, Rhode Island because the poor little thing wouldn't shift beyond second gear.

Supposedly it's all fixed now. I'll know for certain in less than an hour and a half.

I have 20 days to get from Florida to Rhode Island via Key West. All I have is a map of Florida, a tent, and a pink skirt. What could possibly go wrong this time?

The Husky last May.

Made it to Long Key, thanks to the kindness if strangers. Ranger at the state campground rides a DR650.

It's amazing the difference between riding alone and riding with someone else.

Heading to Key West early morning.

What's Up?

I did a run through Pulaski this morning...
Almost got run over by some smokers coming the opposite way on Willie Woodhead...

Hope your trip is going well!

I can update a little for anyone concerned but I don't want to ruin lilolita's story. Everything's been going well and mostly according to plan. It sounds like the folks down there have been extremely friendly and generous. Today she should be crossing the Georgia border (Florida is long apparently) and I'm starting my ride down tomorrow so we can meet up and start our vacation together. I'll try to post my ride too as long as I have a connection.

Looks like our garage is going to get a little tighter...

Well I'm on my way...

Got all packed up this morning to head on down

Look at the pretty roses.

lilolita advised me that it's hot hot hot and I'd be better off wearing something with vents rather than the waterproof Rukka. Well it was pretty much raining on me all day and freezing. No matter - I'm dry now and eagerly looking forward to our reunification, it's all worth it.

I'm in Stroudsburg, PA tonight and we're still working out a definite meeting place for tomorrow or the next day.

Gotta love the Dingman's Ferry crossing, I took this pic for lilolita

Just a quick roadside repair in the Smoky Mountains. Good thing I carry spare CDIs. I'm on my way!

Three words...Old Mortimer Road! North Carolina, I love you.

Met up with cheesebot at Mortimer campground in Pisgah. Getting vittles at the Food Lion.

Hi lilolita! Sorry I missed you when you passed by here. Andrea thoroughly enjoyed your visit. Florida is deceptively big (I mean it looks so narrow, but the trip I just did to SC/NC from central Florida is shorter than riding from Pensacola to Miami). Glad your having a fun trip. NC is superb! If you are in the area for a bit, try riding NC80 up from US70.

Cheers,

Mike
PS Love your mate's Transalp!
