Anyone else get this letter from the DMV?

I received a letter is from the DMV today offering an opportunity to participate in a motorcycle study to be conducted by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The gist of the letter says that I will be paid between $300 and $500 dollars depending on what type of cameras and sensors they install on my bike.

Anyone else receive this letter?

The stator on my plated CR500 is pretty big, but I'm not sure if it will power both their cameras and sensors

I got one that said something about cameras and sensors. I think they mentioned the $300 to $500 also! I think it was from the police department.

I am skeptical of the story given in that letter. I cannot imagine anything positive for the motorcycling community that would come from their stated purpose. Especially so if they put monitors on your plated CR500.

The letter doesn't mention which motorcycle I own that they are interested in monitoring, but I am assuming that it isn't the CR500. Besides, the CR5 is allergic to both the CHP and DMV offices so it won't be visiting either of those places.

I'm guessing you didn't get a letter?
With all of the bikes you own, why not?

Who else got one of these letters?

"Improving the safety for motorcycle riders"

Bullshit. They'll just forward all the data to insurance companies and our rates will get jacked up again. If I see that letter in the mail, its going in the shitcan.

I got one as well. Was considering it and looked into it more - here's a link to some pics of the system installed:

http://www.motorcycle.vtti.vt.edu/study2/bike.html

If I could install it myself I might go for it but ain't nobody else touching my bike .

edit: from the consent form, for the tin foil hat types:

Because the motorcycle camera system is storing continuous video, it may capture some

incriminating evidence if an at-fault collision should occur. To help us protect your privacy, we

If being skeptical of the true purpose of this study results in my membership to the "tin foil hat" club, well then sign me up.

The vague disclaimers in the proclamation you quoted have little, if any ability to protect a person at fault in an incident.

Now on the other hand, wearing a tin foil hat when involved in a tort situation certainly ensures true legal immunity.

At least as much as that consent form does.

Anyone else get this letter from the DMV?

Could be some Euro trash study to legalize lane sharing but to be sure you should ride Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap then maybe some Skyway.
