2015 Death Valley Noobs Rally - March 26 - 28

edited: date on title is march 26 - 28, it should be 26-29 (1 day longer)

only event that's fun to be a noob...

this will be the 10th year we will rule, i mean taste the california desert .....

we have a date! posting this early so you could put it on your next year's calendar.

March 26-29, 2015

at PANAMINT SPRINGS in beautiful Panamint Valley

as originally intended, our main objective is to provide an opportunity for all new and returning riders to get back on the saddle and find their place in the sun.

not a noob, no worry. regardless of your riding ability, we welcome everyone who enjoys adventure riding, motorcycles, camaraderie and mentoring less skilled riders.

we'll have lots of these.............

more info and details will be posted soon.

meantime, enjoy the ride reports from the previous years

1st noob's rally, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th
8th,9th

this was posted on the 2014 thread last week. it pretty much depicts some of the riding in death valley. great job jason.

please do not call PSR to make your own arrangement! if you're moteling, you must register and pay me first, then i will give you the code to pay for your motel room.

ACCOMODATION:

1. MOTORCYCLE CAMPING - THE TRUE ADVENTURE RIDER AND SPIRIT

2. TRUCKING - TENT CAMPING, DRY RV CAMPING OR TRAILERING

3. RVing - FULL HOOK UP X 12 SITES, MINIMUM OF 3 NIGHTS AND 2 PEOPLE PER RV - prepaid and registered only (no dibs)

4. MOTEL - SHAMELESS ADVENTURE RIDERS ONLY, MINIMUM OF 3 NIGHTS - prepaid and registered only (no dibs)

5. TENT CABIN - SITES #14 and # 20 (4 cots/site) while #15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 have 2 cots/site

i will be posting the cost of accomodation later. sorry, it's not the same as if you would stay there on a regular weekend. we are renting the entire resort and paying for all sites regardless it's occupied or not. better this way since we don't want neighbors in the campground that may not like our activities, not that we will be wild or create trouble. i'm not also comfortable seeing strangers wandering and looking around while we're all riding.

only paid participants should be in the campground. sorry, you could not bring guest who are not registered.

since volunteers are not getting paid, they get the benefit to have the first pick on the motel rooms and full hook up rv sites!

Campground/National park rules and regulations, death valley info, and general Q&A.

From years past.......

We have a very large group, but this is not an organized riding event. When you ride in DV National Park you are riding "on your own in small groups with friends". Large groups require special escort by the Rangers... We don't want any of our NooBs to be escorted by the Rangers, OK?

TRASH POLICY - IF YOU BRING IT IN, YOU GOT TO PACK IT OUT! OUR TRASH DOES NOT BELONG IN THE DESERT AND AT DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK. I DON'T THINK THERE WILL BE A DUMPSTER AT THE CAMPGROUND FOR US TO GET RID OF OUR TRASH.

NO fireworks.... We are surrounded by the National Park in PSR.

----------------------------------

Panamint Springs Resort operates completely off grid, which means we do not have access to public utilities. All of our electricity is produced by a diesel generator that runs 24 hours per day. There are also no phone lines here so our only phone is made possible by a triangulation of a digital cellular signal from miles away. Our water comes from Darwin Falls. It is piped 5 miles to Panamint Springs Resort where we treat the water and distribute it throughout the property. Our internet is via satellite provider.

Do you have internet access?

We are pleased to be able to provide complimentary internet for the purpose of sending brief messages to your family and friends to let them know you are safe. The internet connection here is provided by satellite and as such, is extremely limited in the speed and amount of bandwidth allowed. This is, unfortunately, beyond the control of Panamint Springs Resort.

This is a highly shared network, and for the sake of others, we request you respect the needs of others to send safe arrival messages to their families. By not using the network access for the prohibited applications, everyone will be able to use the connections effectively. If the network is abused, service may be lost for up to 24 hours. Therefore please do not rely on the internet service at Panamint Springs.

Due to the bandwidth limitation, we ask that before connecting to the network, you disable any auto-updating of your laptop or smart phone.

Please refrain from using any application that uploads or downloads large amounts of data such as:

Netflix of other video streaming
Skype, FaceTime or other video conferencing
Pandora or other internet radio or music
YouTube or other multi-media sharing sites
Photobucket, Flikr, or other photo sites
Web pages that contain a high content of graphics or photos

-----------------------------------

Is there digital cell phone service in Death Valley National Park?

Digital cell service is very limited in Death Valley National Park. There is cell service at Furnace Creek and a few other specific locations, depending on your provider. There is no digital cellular service at Panamint Springs Resort.

Is there a payphone at Panamint Springs Resort?

Since Panamint Springs Resort is completely off-grid, we do not have land lines. Our only phone is our reservation line. This is only available for emergencies and is $2.50 per minute with a $5 connection fee. Our phone is not always reliable, so there may not be service when you need it.

------------------------------------------

ROADS & VEHICLE USE inside the Park
• All vehicles must remain on established roads. This includes motorcycles, bicycles and four-wheel-drive vehicles.
• All motorized vehicles and drivers must be properly licensed.
• Operating a motor vehicle in a manner that causes unreasonable damage to the surface of a park road or route is prohibited.
• Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV) are prohibited from operating inside park boundaries. California Vehicle Code (CVC §38000, 38.010, 38115) states that OHVs are "operated exclusively off the highways on lands that are open and accessible to the public". Nevada Vehicle Code similarly states that OHVs are prohibited from operating on highways. All park roads, regardless of surface conditions, are classified as highways for the purpose ofthe California Vehicle Code, including Division 16.5 sections 38000 et aL, which only permits California "street legal" vehicles to be operated on highways. OHVs are defined by Executive Order Number I 1644 (37 FR 2887) and include vehicles identified under California Vehicle Code Sections 38012 (a) through (b)(3), which define OHVs as: "Motor vehicle commonly referred to as a sand buggy, dune buggy, all-terrain vehicle (ATV), jeep, trail bike, or go-cart."
• Vehicles with off-road registration may not be operated in the park.
