We get to do it again!

Day 23--------Sunday June 29

The great thing about today is we get to ride back over Beartooth Pass Elevation 10,947'
We took our time and were leap frogging each other and getting photos of each other. It is amazing how different a road can seem just by riding the opposite direction. Too soon we get to the turn off for Chief Joseph Highway, a little sad to be done with Beartooth but on to another great road.

Look at this

After the Cheif Joseph Highway we needed to talk about what was next. The decision was made to head toward Mt. Rushmore. We went through Cody and Greybull through Bighorn Natl. Forest to Buffalo and Spearfish and Deadwood S.D.

Stopped in Deadwood for the night.

Maxbet was an easy sell on staying in Deadwood since every other building is a casino and gambling is his hobby. He was starting to have withdrawal symptoms and needed a fix. We found a room at the Iron Horse Inn.

Walked over to the main street. Maxbet was starting to drool as we walked by casinos

Had a good meal at Saloon Ten.

Something I noticed

Just an observation on my part. When we were in Canada and Alaska the vast majority of the bikes we saw were adventure bikes, BMW-GS, KLR, KTM, VStrom, Tigers, Tenres and the like. Such a change once we were back in the lower 48 and especially the closer we got to S.D., Mt. Rushmore and Sturgis area. Harley's dominate.

The Beartooth is probably one of the finest motorcycle roads I have ever experienced. A little crowded in places, but well worth the effort and just spectacular. Hopefully the wind was down for you guys. Was blowing so hard for me that I didnt stop until I was on my way back down the west side. But it was that way all the way to Iowa

Steve, am glad she made it back. Hope the damage isnt too bad

We did not, Maxbet has been there 3 times, I have been there once, Greg is the only one who has not been there before so we skipped it. On our way West early in our trip we got to see some small bits of scenery very similar to the Badlands, so we told Greg that's what it looks like.

I was very impressed with Bearthooth Pass. We did have some wind each direction, probably more the evening we went Northeast. Enough to make me a little uncomfortable in the turns when it would suddenly gust.
I think we were very lucky with the wind compared to you guys!

In my opinion Beartooth Pass is not the most "fun" road I have ever been on, I like some roads in West Virginia better for pure fun, some of them "flow" better. Beartooth Pass is a lot straights connected to very sharp curves. But for the combination of absolutely stunning scenery and the curvy, twisty road Bearthooth Pass is a ride I will never forget.

Last year, I was headed north, flopped in Hyder for the night, when I talked to a couple of characters on KLRs headed the other way. They'd had a little weather on the Dalton, I believe it was, and it had taken them 7 hours to go 80 miles. Ya never know.

Enjoyed the report. Lots of familiar scenes.

I got back a week ago from a ride around Montana. You must have been coming back while we were heading west. Going to the Sun road opened just about the time we got there.

Oh, by the way, that big machine is a ... oh, wait.

Maxbet gets caught cheating

Monday June 30th-----------day 24.

Oh My, where has the time gone.

We head toward Mt. Rushmore but stop at Crazy Horse first, I am amazed at how much has been done here since I was here in 2008 Took a quick photo from outside the gate and kept moving.

We stopped for gas about 12 miles from Mt. Rushmore, Maxbet and I have been there before so we waited at the gas station while Greg went sightseeing. It wasn't long until he was back and we headed south again. Going through Custer St. Park we saw more of these.

It has come to my attention that I have misidentified these animals as cows. I apologize for the misinformation. After exhaustive research I am now sure they are Wildebeest.

Just look at the crappy weather we had to deal with.

Gas stop, this place even works on cars in the garage!!!

A rancher driving a well used Dodge dually diesel pulled in and asked where we were from and about our trip. Greg asked him about the size of the ranches, he paused for a few seconds and said that 300 head of cattle would be average and that it takes 6,000 to 7,000 acres to support a herd that size. WOW, that's a little different than southern PA.

This is where Maxbet strayed. He has two of his own dogs at home but look how he behaves when he is away from home.

Now all you dog lovers don't have to worry, I e-mailed these photos to his dogs.

And more of this crappy weather.

We roll into ONeill, NE and find a Mom & Pop motel and spend the evening.
