Northern Ontario Trip Aug. Sat. 9- Tues.12

Looking to make a Northern Ontario Trip with another inmate and seeing if any other inmates want to join the group.
Looking to leave very early on Aug 9 from Sudbury, Espanola Area, Port Loring area.
Ideally would like to make it to Abitibi Canyon and back to the starting point in the 4 days. Looking to stay off asphalt as much as possible but not too interested in single track as my buddy is driving a KLR.
If any inmates are interested in making the trip lets us know. I know a few inmates have made the trip in the past, please share your route and any tips.

Hey there. I just read a few RR of this trip. Seems like a decent go (depending how "hardcore" you go). Where do you actually live? In Sudbury area? I would consider inviting myself, but I live way too far away (and don't quite have the ability to take those days off work).

We are coming from Niagara area. But we have a cottage near the French River we would be staying at the night before.

cool ride

Wow, lofty goals guys. Looks like an awesome ride.
2 of us did Sudbury to Timmins and back in 4 days. We did a lot of hydro line.
There are 2 lines running from Sudbury north. We went up one and came back down the other for the most part.

It doesn't get much better than riding the north.
Have a blast!

I'm in Timmins and would be glad to join you!

Can't just stop at the Canyon though - should go all the way up to New Post Falls! (about another 20km of gravel)

This sounds like a great ride. Too bad it wasn't a bit later since I am away that weekend. look forward to the RR

Fill up in SRF and the Canyon is less than 100km.

You can get from Sudbury to Timmins all on gravel - it is a great ride. Timmins to SRF can also be done on gravel. You get to the Canyon on HWY634 (two narrow, partially paved lanes). Been there plenty of times (used to work there). I've only been to New Post once but it was not difficult to find as I recall.

Maybe I'll have to do this ride in the fall.

I've always wanted to try camping at the decommissioned Little Abitibi Provincial Park. Not sure if it's worth the trip. Was even thinking of making it a side trip on my way up the JBH in Quebec.

I wonder if there are any routes from the north east side of Little Abitibi to north and then west over toward New post Falls? That would be a great loop!

Sounds like a good trip. It seems that everytime I head up there, at least one guy is on a paver bike. I got a fresh pair of TKC80's ready to go for the GSA!

In Timmins that Weekend

I'll be in Timmins that weekend - leaving from Orangeville area on Thursday and staying on Mattagami Lake (across from the Haven).

What day do you think you will be in Timmins and going to the canyon? Sounds like fun.

I'd travel with up there with you but sounds like I'll be leaving a little earlier. I may be able to join the trip back as well.

We expect to be in Timmins the night of Saturday Aug. 9th and leaving Sunday for the canyon. Overnight in the canyon, then head back.

Sounds great. I'll have to confirm with my wife and will get back to you ASAP.

I'm in Burlington, just up the road from you on a 2011 GSA. Perhaps we could meet along the way around Burlington on the 8th.
