problem is your photos make me so damn restless - now I need to get out to some remote back country spot to settle me down again......

Cheers

Hi Mark. Couldn't agree more with the term restless, its hard not to get that way with calibre of riding we have in our backyard

Cheers

Next day, rod in hand

The next day starting off with cracker weather and clear running water. Just riding along the road I managed to spot a few reasonable size brown trout from the seat of my bike, this was promising. My plan however was to go much further up and fish some smaller and more remote tributaries. I was unsure if these smaller streams I had lined up held any fish but they were certainly visually inviting.

One of the fish sitting up behind a rock

Parking up the bike and heading off on foot

The majority of the day was spent covering a lot of ground up small streams however it appeared I had walked past the point of which the fish reside. Although no fish were seen or caught it was a magic walk through some pretty stunning native bush, a thoroughly enjoyable day

I poked my nose up this walking track for a quick looksee on the way back to the motel.

The walk was so good I literally couldn't stop myself and ended up walking right to the very end to the lookout over Lake Ellery

On my return back to the bike and back to the motel this fairly decent sized fellow held its ground right in the middle of the walking track

That happened to me last night, but they're back today. I'd say he's just tinkering with the site still

Leg #5 Haast to Ross

Departing the motel the weather could not have been any better for a ride

I decided to stop for brunch at the Salmon Farm Cafe

This this was the best meal I had the whole trip, super yummy

After brunch is was a casual cruse up the coast checking out numerous side roads along the way

Up near the Saltwater Lagoon Track there were hundreds of spiders erecting their real estate over the native trees

Tell us how you really think!

The day's end point was Ross Motels. I always enjoy staying here, not the most modern or flash motel but super friendly hosts

Leg #6 - Ross to Karamea

Today was a return to home leg kicked off with a big breakfast at the Roddy Nugget

Not too many pics were taken that day, I enjoyed the ride and scenery too much and rolled in the door late afternoon winding up a successful GPS logging trip

With more GPS logging and flyfishing on the cards I planned to catch up with a riding buddy and incorperate a trip through Napoleon Hill

Leg #1 - Karamea to Reefton

The trip kicked off on a grey dreary day but the rain held off as I made my way over to Reefton and had a snoop around some nearby tracks

Some old mining relics up Larrys Creek Track

After catching up with Carl and partner, we shot out for a good feed to fuel the body for the following day's ride, then hit the sack for a good nights sleep

Napoleon Hill

Numerous times I had planned to go through this route but heavy rain meant it was not an option, I was glad to finally have the rain gods on my side for once. This is the east side land owners place (nice guy) who runs his house of this hydro power setup

Although I've seen photos of the tunnels numerous times it certainly falls short of actually riding through them in person

On one of the steeper side tracks where Carl almost had an undies change moment!

Beautiful pics and some wonderful journeys.

I read the write up on your bike build a while back, it's certainly a great set up.
Care to share your general packing list?
It looks like you carry a fair amount and I really like the rod holders.

At fuel stops and whatnot, those rod holders have many people scratching their head; normally followed by the question "what the hell are those things"

There will be a collection of articles on the new RemoteMoto website with full printable lists of all the gear loaded to the bike for each trip.

Will keep you posted when the articles go up

Cheers

Leg #2 Reefton to Springs Junction

This was not a long leg at all, but I was off to find a motel and base myself as I was keen to do some exploring of local rivers for flyfishing

I decided to stay in this motel of which afterwards I wish I hadn't. It was pretty run down but it didn't detract from the location and the fishing I had lined up
