Boots on, rod in hand

The next day was on the bike and off to stalk some river edges. I was not disappointed with the quality of the rivers, absolutely spectacular!

Heading into a gorge section the water was slow running emerald green goodness with a number of sizable resident browns

The fishing was tough, very spooky trout, but I managed to land a couple of absolute beauties

There will be a collection of articles on the new RemoteMoto website with full printable lists of all the gear loaded to the bike for each trip.

Will keep you posted when the articles go up

Cheers
Awesome thanks, much appreciated.

Leg #3 Springs Junction to Christchurch

A cousin was flying in from Australia so it was off for an evening meal and a family catchup night. It was a magic day for a ride through Lewis Pass

The Red Post putting on a typically yummy lunch

I had some work to do on the laptop so I parked up in this motel for the night. Two dud motels in a row =(

The next motel in Christchurch was much nicer =)

Leg #4 - Christchurch to Karamea

After a good family catchup it was back through Lewis Pass. On the way I made a point to stop at Blacks Point Museum

The museum is full of interesting memorabilia and history. I am in owe of what early day gold miners endured

They also have a working stamping plant which they crank up for you. This was pretty cool and definitely worth a looksee. A great way to wind up the trip back to base

Awesome photos. On my wifes parents farm at Inangahua by the iron bridge in the Buller gorge, there is the remains of one of those stampers about 1/2 days walk in bush behind the farm. The Chinese carried it all in there way back in the day looking for gold. Great to what they looked like in one piece.

Their is (was) a few of them rusting away on the Coast. The old man had a knack for finding them, and dragged his teenage son along with him.

Thanks for these awesome photos and all the info. I'll be coming over from Scotland around February-March for three weeks or so. We'll be staying with my GF's family on the North Island between a 7-9 day tour of the South Island. Hopefully we'll get a KLR from here to do it on.

Hi Night Falcon, I wasn't aware of the one up the back of your families place but there are old relics all over the show, very few fully assembled batteries though. Seeing this one in operation was pretty cool. The fella who runs the place does a great job of going over how they worked, well worth a looksee

Spot on Pete. Used to smash the rocks up where gold is in fine form and using mercury to grab the particles of gold on the way down

Hi ya Woodman, it appears you were as allergic to walking as a young lad as you are as an adult!

Hi Mike, that's a good choice of bike for touring NZ and being able to get in to all the good places. Have a great trip
