I had the immense privilege of spending 11 mos. in Colorado over the course of two, touristy instalments. Those pics succeeded in making me 'homesick' for the place. CO is a place that I'd have no trouble at all calling home.

Riding in Baby Powder

At this point in the trip I was having a great time. My bike was running well and not leaking like a sieve. The weather wasn't quite as hot as it had been in Utah. I wasn't puking anymore. Life was good and we were riding this beautiful road along the Colorado River. That's Jenna up ahead. As with most of this trip we were keeping plenty of distance between us in an effort to minimize the amount of dust in our air filters and dental work.

Prior to this trip I hadn't really ridden in a lot of sand. We are partial to mud and clay in Georgia but not a lot of sand. But after making it through Utah I thought I had got the sand riding thing pretty well dialed in. Lean back, keep on the throttle and hope you don't have to turn for any reason. But the stuff outside of Gypsum was a whole different species of sand. I don't know if the pics do it any justice.

Sorry for the headless pic Jenna. It was minutes after taking this pic that I had my first good slam of the trip. I zigged when I should have zagged in the powder and me and my bike got to take a nice roll in it.

This shot is from our campsite outside of Gypsum that night. At that point it seemed like I'd spent half of my vacation time out West wrenching on my bike. When Jenna pulled out her special BMW seat adjustment tool and started working on her bike I had to get a pic. Me= blow up cylinder head, remove, reinstall. Jenna= bend seat bracket, hit with rock.

Eshhh....sorry y'all. Been out to lunch a bit too long.

So we woke up just south of Gypsum CO to a nice bkfast of oatmeal and coffee. I even was able to have a "French whore bath" in the creek after my morning duty.....

Back on the road towards Buena Vista CO....

But we hit a snag pretty early on just outside of Sylvan Lake Park...

So I thought maybe taking this jeep trail would bypass the construction......

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

As usual, way steeper in person.....and we had to turn back after several uphill switchbacks with hidden babyheads and multiple goat fucks....

Looking back the way we came...

Happy to be here...

We bypassed the construction by heading back into Gypsum and hit the Hway to Eagle....

Back on track...and where we should've come out...

Getting ready to ride Hagerman...

Hagerman was a lot rockier than I expected....and my exhaust system had a few things to say about it....

Time to get the rock back out....

NO, not that one....

What do you mean we aren't at the top yet???

Dammit.....

Time to get the rock back out....

My good side....I recommend not getting on my bad side....

We were definatly worn out toward the days end.....

But we had a blast on some sandy double track heading into Buena Vista...

I mean it was a lot of fun!!!

Getting a chance to be quiet and shut my brain off....

Lookin' like I might know what the hell I'm doing....

Just soaking up the sights...

This guy was maybe 20' from the road and neither of us even noticed him...

"We've got some weather......"

It started pouring by the end of the day....and we relented and looked for a campground.

Camping at Cinnamon Lake....

Awesome trip, and an awesome report on the awesome trip. I admire the can-do, flexible attitude that's obvious throughout.

Jenna, we've ridden together before, SandBlast 2013. Was 2 places behind you in the start order on my F800GS. At SandBlast 2014, had an experience on stage 4 very similar to your 2013 event. No lasting damage - enjoyed Magnum Opus this past June, heading up to Black River Stages in two weeks.

Burst out laughing at Mike's reference to his 4Runner as 'raingear'. I've occassionally referred to my van as a '3500 lb umbrella'. Perhaps a more common motorcycle commuter point of view than many realize.

Look forward to tales and pictures from the further adventures . . .
