Jawbone Canyon to Bodfish - Road Conditions?

Planning on making this trip next weekend on my 1200GS.

Been up the canyon to ride the Piutes on my 350EXC regularly and the road is in great shape on the Piute side but I have never stayed on it thru the Saddle Spring section to Bodfish.

Anyone have a report on the current condition of this road?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't ridden it in awhile but I remember it being just as good all the way through.

It is all county road, not problem. The Saddle Springs road seems to go on for ever and is a little rough.

Thanks guys.. no chance of a locked gate somewhere up there is there?

Countdown - care to elaborate on rough? We will have 4 guys on the 1200GS everyone running full knobbies and all with solid skills.. Just want to know what we will be in for since we will be pretty committed by that time with a final destination of Troy Meadows..

Yes there are Snow gates on each end of Saddle Springs but been open a long time. It is just choppy, your ass gets a good work out.

A real gaggle of GS's!! And out to Monache...whoot.

Next time check out Horse Meadow camp ground, it's about 15 miles off Sherman Pass Hiway on the Kern side. Ride out to Big Meadow and Cannell meadows, stop at the cabin. All big bike friendly, way scenic, and off the beaten path.

How was Piute Mt. Road accross the range? Seems to me there is some good camping up there as well.
