3sport pretty much covered it, but I would add - bring insect repellent, and, good all terrain hiking footwear.

The area right at the start is an awesome spectator area. But the stuff out in the woods is well worth the effort to get there. I missed last year, but at the first 2 events, you could go just about anywhere as long as it wasn't in the actual racing trails.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ I had my 450 on-site last year. Was soooo nice to be able to ride from one viewing area to the next.

Awesome - thanks! Where do you recommend we park at Raccoon Mtn?

Two races on Saturday. The first at 10am, the next at 2pm. Central time. Each race has about 2 hours of constant action.

They have wave starts. Imagine it being like a triathlon wave start. They launch about 9 bikes at a time with just a couple minutes gap between them and the next wave. Each wave is designated by their assigned number series. That's how you can follow how well they are doing. i.e. If you see a 800 series number mixed in with a bunch of 200 series riders, you'll know that dude is fast and has basically passed everyone in his wave and caught several other waves.

So, there's really no waiting between heats or waves. Just the gap between the first and second race.

The course is spread out over a large area. Its not like an arena race. You can watch for 20 minutes in one area, then walk to another area, then go to another area. Just dress comfortable as you'll be walking a lot. Last year, conditions were wet. Spectators had to help some of the riders on a very difficult hill climb section. So, there's the possibility to get dirty... Again, I only attended amateur day last year. Different rules on Sunday. Can't touch the pro riders.

I'd like to get there by 10 for the Hot Laps.

First 2 years, bike parking was free and there was plenty of it. I really want to explore the course this year, I know there is some really cool stuff I haven't seen.

First race is a 1 mile extreme lap, this is how they get the starting order for the 1st main.............It's a good one to be at.... A lot of the Sat qualifiers quit after this race...

Hey, I park at the Visitor's Center. Its about halfway around the reservoir. But, honestly have not been in a while. I've just been reading about the break-ins on various MTB forums and most happen at the East Brow cause its easy in and out for the rednecks that live in the valley near by... I used to ride regularly out there about there about 4 years ago and the parking lot at the East Brow was a problem then and apparently is still a problem. Most guys I know that park there just leave their doors unlocked to avoid the break-in yet yield the contents of their car to the thieves. There's a lack of law enforcement out there. Something to do with law enforcement confusion on the jurisdiction between TVA police, Hamilton county sheriffs, and Marion county sheriffs. Seems none wanna take ownership of the issues out there and point fingers at each other. A local elite roadie cyclist was assaulted out there a while back and ran into that very issue.

Anyway, enjoy your ride and the TKO afterwards! No real parking issue at TKO for the Saturday races.
