Don't waste your time coming here. The polar bears are out in full force, you can't bring your gun, and we use the metric system. Try Oregon... they LOVE Californians there...

You haven't said when you were planning your trip - is it later this summer? The weather had been great up here in the South Island - no rain is in the forecast. One thing to count on in August is marine fog. This blankets the west coast presenting a rather grey cloud cover each morning. It usually burns off as the heat of the day builds and the blue sky returns. You probably have a similar situation down in coastal California. The east coast of Vancouver Island doesn't get this sea fog - so far we've had mostly sunny weather this month.

That will be a good time to explore. The sea fog keeps the temps down and the daily temperature high on the coast never matches what they get inland or on the east coast of the Island. They are not forecasting any real change in the flow of the jet stream and so my guess is that what we are geting now is what you will be experiencing. With any luck, you will have enough time to do the North Island. The highway to Gold River is highly spoken of by many - nice twisties.

Thanks for the forcast,we can handle some rain just more fun if its not soaking and a little cooler, our trip up Kootenay was great but it never cooled off much,we were there around the 4th of july,so some marine layer and cool nights make zippin the sleeping bags together so nice for night time.

Take the ferry over to Sointula and camp on the beach on the east side of the island. Then go to the great museum in the village.
