Heading to Crete in a couple of weeks for a short break... flying into Chania. Wondering if anyone has any knowledge of motorcycle rental. I've heard good things! Not pushed about off road but would just love to do some riding (with pillion) in the sun for a change.
Sorry can't help with hire as it was a several years since I rode there , but went a few times and plenty of great riding all over the island ( on and off road ) A few pictures to whet the appetite !! Have fun .......
Worth riding down to Chora Sfakion on the southern coast - check out the map down there and beautiful little hidden beaches etc. Also a great privately run small WW2 Museum on the way - worth a look ! Askifou War Museum
I went to Malia in the east a couple of years ago and there were bike rental places everywhere, I bet it's the same in the Chania area. I plumped for a KLX250. I had a look on Google, you can get a Transalp here for €146 for 4 days.
Brilliant info. Thanks everyone! We'll be 2 up so looking at a road bike and sticking to paved, though those gravel roads look amazing!
Hi @Ackme... thanks for asking! We had a ball. Only rented the bike(s) from Lion Bikes in Chania for four days, because I didn't want to push it, but my pillion/better half was sorry in the end we didn't book for longer. Went west to Elafonise, east from Chania to Heraklion and Knossos, and south across the hills to take the ferry to Loutro. Can't remember the exact cost but it was super-reasonable at something like €40 a day. We first chose a Versys, but I found the throttle on that really choppy and a couple of days in asked to swap for a TransAlp, which was much smoother and more comfortable. I've always had roadsters, and I love my Interceptor, but I may be converted just a little bit to ADVs! Roads in Crete are ok if you keep your eyes open. Drivers are lunatics, and quite a few completely lose their shit if you don't pull into the shoulder, often full of debris, to get out of their way. Much of the time, my mirrors were completely full with some idiot's SUV grille. Apart from that, Cretans must be the coolest people on the planet. One bit to look at if renting is to establish your level of insurance cover. I felt it was all a bit casual and iffy, even though I paid extra for 'comprehensive'. Other than that, the rental people were great to deal with.
