In a move that should surprise nobody, GasGas is apparently gearing up to sell street-legal enduro bikes in the US market.
This news comes not from an official press release, but thanks to document digging from Dennis Chung at Motorcycle.com. Chung found paperwork filed with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicating GasGas intends to bring street-legal enduro machines to the States in 2024. It takes a bit of “if-then” brainwork, but when you decipher the information he found, it appears that Pierer Mobility will sell street-legal enduro bikes from GasGas just as it currently does with its KTM and Husqvarna brands.
What models can we expect?
When Pierer Mobility first added GasGas to the fold, it looked like the plan was to offer a more budget-friendly lineup, perhaps repackaging older KTM tech to keep costs down. At this point, it does seem that GasGas is intended to sell for less money than bikes from Husqvarna or KTM, but they’re essentially the same models. The big difference is a coat of red paint and a slightly less-flashy chassis. Some components such as brake discs, exhausts, etc., are sourced from less-expensive manufacturers. This lets GasGas keep its MSRP a bit lower than its in-the-family counterparts while still offering basically the same machine.
With that in mind, we’d expect red versions of the KTM 350 EXC-F and 500 EXC-F coming in next year, maybe as the ES350 and ES500. Expect budget-friendly controls, suspension and brake components, and a price tag a few hundred bucks lower than whatever KTM’s models sell for then.
