Italian manufacturer Tacita has gone from the deserts of the Dakar Rally to global showrooms with five new electric motorcycles this year, including three new models in its T-Race lineup. This includes the new Enduro, Motard and Motorally models, aimed at trail riding, supermoto and rally raid racing respectively.

Tacita has been entering its electric motorcycles in Dakar’s alt-energy class off-and-on over the years, certainly never challenging the gas-powered motorcycles for a win—but at least the company is there, trying to learn how to improve its products. The new bikes this year supposedly draw on lessons learned in the race.

Technical updates start with a five-speed gearbox, a rare feature on an electric motorcycle. Tacita says it’s supposed to help run the bike more efficiently and preserve battery range. On that note, there is also a new battery management system, designed to prevent overheating and to increase range. The Tacita lineup gets new 120-volt controllers. The motors are rated to handle a continuous output of 11kW, but they actually max out at 34kW. Presumably they have some sort of temporary high-performance mode, where the motor can be overdriven for short periods of time to extract more power without overheating. Battery capacity on the Enduro and Motard models is 9 kWh; on the Motorally, it’s 13 kWh, since more capacity is needed for the desert races.

Of course, there’s lots of carbon-fiber and Kevlar used to create these bikes, with weight supposedly at 432 lb or less.

Many of Italy’s motorcycle manufacturers rely on third-party suppliers, many to an extent that would shock most buyers. However, Tacita says 80 percent of the components in these bikes are made in-house, or by companies that Tacita owns/controls. In today’s world of component shortages, that’s a very wise business practice. It’s also interesting to note that while Tacita obviously spends lots of money on its Dakar effort, it seems to minimize its money spent on hype elsewhere. Given the ongoing implosion of many luxury electric motorcycle brands, it is refreshing to see a somewhat more careful approach (not that you can’t blow an awful lot of money racing instead).

Reportedly, these bikes will be coming to North America in 2025, with deals in place for both Canada and the US. Will we see that at Mexican rally raid events soon? Keep an eye on the Tacita website for more details in the coming months, as well as photos of their various new models.
