Uh, yeah.... that is what partly caused the lack of supply.

That and the Ever Given. Now that that is freed up, everything one could ever want will now be available... it was on that boat!

I watched the course, and followed along. Great course, and yes it explains track usage nicely. But, he admits he does not use Routes, or Trips for his Nav mode. So, they are not discussed. Every Zumo XT menu selection available is discussed. It's a nice tutorial.

I also found a discussion of waypoint type transfer from WinPC BaseCamp (BC) to Phone Garmin Explore app to (via Phone Garmin Drive app) to Garmin Zumo XT around page #114 of this thread. Directly after, I saw an inmate complain about a "double transfer" of track and waypoint data when "pushing" data from the Explore app to the Zumo XT, through the Drive app. I discovered why the "doubling" occurs, and I have a fix for it.

The fix is simple: After the data copy from (WinPC) BC to (phone) Explore. (Copy via email or cloud based share). Open the data (waypoints, tracks) in Explore and look it over. Should be just one copy of data there, in the (phone) Explore app. Check symbols for correct type and color, check track for correct color and direction. Everything should be right, but fix in WinPC BC if it's not quite right yet, and then reload it into phone Explore.

To be clear, if you are using WinPC based BC for Planning, then I believe you must have at least Internet via WiFi at this point. For transferring data from cloud or via email, to phone-based Explore.

OK, everything looks correct in (phone) Explore. Start the (phone) Drive app. Do Not Copy / Share the data to Drive!! (This action is where "double data" occurs).

Power up the Zumo, and allow Zumo BT to connect to phone. Select "Where To?". Select "Explore". Select wrench icon in upper left corner. Select "Sync Explore Data". Garmin Drive will now extract the tracks, routes, waypoints, and other collections data from the phone Garmin Explore app. and "pull" the data into the Zumo.

No "double data" will be seen in the Zumo. I have also seen the Internet web-based (Microsoft Explorer / Google Chrome) Garmin Explore app sync / update with this data if you are logged in, but sometimes it is not identical with what is on the phone Explore app. (ie: It appears to not be reliable).

Do Not push the data from WinPC based BC to WinPC based Explore. That will wreck the track and waypoint data set into the (your) Internet web-based (MS Explorer / Chrome web browser) Garmin Explore Library database.

Once the data is transferred into the (phone) Explore app (via email or cloud based share), I believe you can then disconnect from the LTE web and / or the WiFi web, and proceed off-line, and off-road with your new track and (correct) waypoints.

This method is very "clunky", but I now understand the usefulness of phone based Garmin Explore app.

I read about a recommendation for the planning app Furkot. So, I decided to try it out. I'm looking for an easy to use, android phone based route planning app (Chrome browser web based, or dedicated Mobile app is OK). I would like to not be tethered to the WinPC based BaseCamp routing app. (which I know how to use, but do not want to drag a PC along my trip).

I know about the differences between routes, tracks, and (Trip) conversions using iterations (Chrome web-based app, and / or Mobile app.) of Garmin Explore and Drive. I got all that under the learning curve belt.

I know about track / route, import / export methods, and WinPC and Android filesystems. All good there. I also know about the difficulties with Waypoints management and their icons, and the workaround methods to get them (icon intact) into the XT device. I've done that successfully with the long, tedious methods previously described (using Win7 PC BC via email method).

    OK, now to my problem:

I have the no-subscription Furkot Mobile app loaded onto my Samsung S9+ (Android 10) phone. This is not the "trial gold subscription" version of the app, this is the Google Playstore "out of the box" app version. I also have Win7 PC based Furkot, and Chrome web based Furkot (trips.furkot.com) loaded with the same test routes.

I have attempted to export two test routes in GPX format (default file type, no other allowed) from Furkot, both test routes attempted via the Mobile Furkot app on the phone, and via the Win7 PC Web based Furkot to the local filesystem, then via email to myself. I used two test routes, one long (Montrose to La Sal, like the YouTube tutorial) and one short (AZ city to city) to determine if I was being track waypoint count limited at the import.

All four attempts end with a "Error uploading file" message at the import to the Web based Garmin Explore on the phone, and also import to the Garmin Explore Mobile app on the phone.

The file name is correct: .gpx ending.

I have successfully imported GPX tracks into this phone based Garmin Explore Mobile app before these attempts, and synch'ed to the XT for Nav (via Drive), so I'm pretty sure the Explore app is intact, functional.

    Anyone know whats wrong?

I wanted to like Furkot, but right now, it is a fustrating dead end in a #headbanging process.

    From page 162:

I had this chat with Garmin tech support today, since the Zumo XT / Garmin Express still does not allow Map Install on WinPC BaseCamp, as of today:

    "
    Me:
I desire to route plan in BaseCamp with the up-to-date maps that are available in the Zumo XT. However, the BaseCamp does not allow me to manage the map within BaseCamp. That is, I can see the map listing when the Zumo XT is attached via USB to my Win7 PC desktop, but the BaseCamp will not update the maps it (BaseCamp) manages to include the maps within the Zumo XT. Said a different way: The Zumo XT has maps locked to it. I am requesting my BaseCamp be allowed to unlock it and install it to BaseCamp when the XT is attached. I think this is done via Express, which is why I am requesting the ticket on Express.

    Bouachanh:
Thank you. We have a case on that but I'll need information from your unit. One moment.

<Requests my XT s/n, and if I am a USA or Can. customer>

    Bouachanh:
The information is added to the case. The only work around is what you mentioned. That the unit has to be connected to the computer to access the map on BaseCamp.

    Me:
Thank You. Is there an estimated date of Express rollout for this fix?

    Bouachanh:

No I don't know if there is a fix or when it will be fixed. I can only forward your feedback to engineering.

    Me:

OK. Can you tell me the case number?

    Bouachanh:

Thanks for your efforts. Hopefully as more customers bring this up it will add emphasis to fix.

It is surprising that a few are having difficulties loading the most current version of maps ( City Navigator North America NT 2022.2) to Basecamp for use without the XT plugged in. More surprising, is that Garmin tech support doesn't walk you through the process??

I've downloaded both 2022.1 and 2022.2 to Basecamp without issue. Win10 system

Hope it solves your problem with getting the current map on Basecamp without having to connect the XT every time.

    Re Furkot:

Build you route on whatever device you want to use.

Then open Furkot on your phone. Save the rot to your phone.

Open the route. Android will ask what app to use. Use Garmin Drive. If you accept the following file Garmin Drive will send to the XT next time it connects. Open the trip planner on the XT and it will ask if you want to open it.
    Go ahead you are done.

Huh? Your very own instructions that you linked to indicate to connect the device. :dunno

    1. Open Garmin Express on your computer
    2. Connect your device to the computer and click on that device in Garmin Express
    3. Then: Click map details for the Zumo XT

Don't forget step 4, to "install the most current map on computer/Basecamp" :doh

    4. then click install on computer

    .

Now you can use Basecamp with the most current version of map (that you just installed from your XT) without having to tether your XT to your computer every time.

OK...I get it. You have to have the XT connected to get the new map but once on the computer you don't need to have it connected again.

Came out in the UK about a week ago, still won't you let you download maps to your PC - I have had a case open with support since 28/05/2021, shocking service.

I downloaded the CNNA2022.20 map to my WinPC desktop system using Garmin Express, given the directions above.

I did this after the update shown above. So, good news is, the map download was successful, and I can now launch BaseCamp on my WinPC, and the map is unlocked within BaseCamp, and does not require the Zumo XT to be attached via USB to use this map. Good News.

Bad news is, it took two attempts to download the map file and the 1st attempt failed after the download completed after about an hour. The 2nd attempt completed successfully, and it took about 2 minutes.

I dont know if this map was ever allowed to be downloaded to BC, but the TopoActive PowerSports NA 2021.10 remains locked to the Zumo, and there is no "download to desktop" path given in Garmin Express. This is also true for the IOverlander 2022.30 map file.

Selecting the ToopoActive or the iOverlander map within BaseCamp, with the Zumo XT attached (presumably, acting or not, as the unlock key), these maps are basically useless. They show less detail than the base map. They actually look like the base map. Unusable within BaseCamp.

Those are 'exactly' the steps that I have followed, hence my open case with Garmin support. Whilst sporadic, other users on other online forums are still experiencing problems with the new software. Mainly surrounding maps being locked once downloaded to the PC.

OK... thanks for clarifying. Sorry for your hassles.

I wonder why it works for some and not others with the exact same GPS unit?
